Blog It: from one student to another

So here we are. A semester long assignment of weekly blogs. Anybody kinda excited?

I just wanted to get a few things I wanted to get out of the way before I get down to the meat of the blog post.

1. My blogging style is very casual, conversational, and stream-of-consciousness. That doesn't mean that I am incapable of whipping up a highly articulate and academic writing assignment, but my natural writing style tends to lean more on side of non-academic.

2. I consider myself to be a writer. Well... more of a non-writing writer. I have no repertoire. Just a few half baked ideas and short stories that I plan on one day finishing. Stay tuned on that one, we're out here trying to get better.

3. I'm sure that the only people who are going to be reading this are Sue Pound and Zahira Merchant. If anybody else is reading this... why?

This week we have been talking about blogging

Blogging has existed since the conception of the internet. Since the dawn of 21st century tools, we have had the desire to shout into the void, share our voice, and find our community. As a student, we are often lost in the crowd of students who share similar goals and values as us. It is important for us to feel heard and valued within our universities. How better to collectively use our voice than to create a network of organized voices than through a blog? We live in a world of overloaded-viral-information (OVI). Due to this OVI, our attention spans have since shrunk to LESS THAN A GOLDFISH. From Instagram to Facebook to Twitter to Tik Tok, we have the ability to constantly be entertained and constantly stimulated. Our language has suffered, becoming largely shorthand and picture based. Students' literacy seems to have declined. It breaks my heart when people claim that they never read because it's boring. It is my greatest wish that this blog website allows students to be inspired to read and write and practice their literacy and written communication skills.

By helping student write creatively, we can unlock our potential to be better in the workplace and in the school environment. We can brush away the cobwebs of our screen-melted minds and open up the opportunity to flex our literary muscles. I'm excited to see what's to come. I'm Isabella, signing off for now. See you next week folks.
