I think that our topic of social media for creating a Community of Practice is very relevant for our current period of time. Social distancing is the word of the month. The only way that we can combat loneliness and develop relationships with the people around us is through social media right now. Thus, I have increased my social media usage. Yes, I miss my friends. And yes, this whole self-quarantine situation sucks. But, we have to look at everything with a positive attitude. Therefore, I plan on developing my skill using social media, something I have been sorely lacking.
Creating a network of individuals for work purposes has always been on the back burner of my mind. But this extra time that I have for myself will give me an opportunity to enter into communities that I had previously avoided. For example, for my ITEC 315 class, I will be joining Twitter. I have avoided Twitter my whole life, mainly because I'm afraid it will take over all my time. But, I have all the time in the world right now, so watch out Twitter-verse I'm coming for you.
Goodreads (I've heard) is a website used for the reading community to share their common interest in books, give recommendations, and leave reviews. I plan on joining this community to help me find more books to read as well as gain common knowledge about the book world.
This is a crazy time. There is much to be said about the social and political implications of a pandemic. It is a once in a lifetime experience to see everything shut down around me. All at once, it feels like my world has stopped. Now it is time to come back in touch with my home life, and spend time on the things that I had no time for in my busy life.
